Interactive Exhibits and Tactile Pop-up Activities at the Gates Foundation Discovery Center

Come explore the interactive exhibits at the Gates Foundation Discovery Center! Throughout the evening staff will be facilitating tactile pop-up activities with verbal descriptions. Light refreshments provided.

Know Before You Go

Location: The Gates Foundation Discovery Center is located at 440 5th Avenue North. Our main entrance is on the SE corner of the intersection of 5th and Republican.  We have double doors with push button access that will be unlocked and staff to help hold doors open if necessary.  Our revolving door will be locked. 

Transportation: Rideshares can drop off in front of the Discovery Center. There is a turnaround located at 500 5th Avenue N, just to the north, from which it is about 100 feet to our entrance. (The Discovery Center will be behind you if you use the turnaround). Parking is available in the Seattle Center Garage (paid garage). Metro bus 3 & 4 stop on the NW side of 5th and Republican. The Monorail stops at Seattle Center and is about a 5-7 minute walk.

What to expect:  Staff will be on hand facilitating tactile-friendly activities and conversations at different stations throughout this time.  Engage with staff in conversations and handling objects on polio, poverty, malaria, water, and sanitation and more! 

  • ASL: Two ASL interpreters will be on site to assist any visitors in engaging with our staff. Please let one of our team know if you would like to take advantage of this.

  • Captions: All videos in the space are captioned.

  • Large Print: A large-print booklet of labels and text is available for our new temporary exhibition.

  • Braille: Restrooms are labeled in Braille. Exhibit text not available in Braille.

  • Restrooms: We have a men’s and women’s restroom with multiple stalls each and push button door access. We also have a single stall separate restroom available for anyone.

  • Tactile: The Discovery Center is hands-on and objects are generally touchable. Staff will be curating a series of conversations utilizing some of our more engaging hands-on opportunities.

  • Photography: You are welcome to take photos while you are visiting
